Galamsey Menace: GRASAG to Join Catholic Bishops in Protest Against Galamsey on October 11

The Graduate Students' Association of Ghana (GRASAG) has announced its intention to join forces with the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference in a nationwide protest against illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, and what they describe as worsening governance in the country. The protest, scheduled for October 11, 2024, is expected to draw significant attention to the environmental degradation caused by galamsey and the perceived lapses in leadership in addressing the issue. The Catholic Bishops have been vocal in their criticisms of illegal mining, which has devastated large portions of Ghana’s forests, farmlands, and water bodies. They argue that despite various government initiatives to combat galamsey, the issue persists, posing a serious threat to the environment and livelihoods across the country. OA BUS DRIVER BATTLING FOR HIS LIFE AS ROBBERS ATTACK BUS ON KINTAMPO HIGHWAY

A driver of an OA bus is battling for his life after sustaining gunshot wounds during a robbery attack on the Techiman-Kintampo highway. The intercity travel bus was heading towards Burkina Faso from Kumasi when they were stopped by robbers upon getting to Jema, the capital of Kintampo.  The incident reportedly happened at around 12am, Thursday, January 19. The driver, Mohammed Ibrahim, managed to narrate to Adom News that they were greeted by gunshot from the robbers numbering four. He added that he fled for his safety after he was shot multiple times in his arm, while the robbers took over the bus. Other passengers sustained injuries from the shattered windows, as other visibly shaken passengers had their property stolen. The police were alerted, but the robbers were gone before the officers arrived. The driver and other injured passengers were transported to the Wenchi Methodist Hospital for treatment.
