They argue that despite various government initiatives to combat galamsey, the issue persists, posing a serious threat to the environment and livelihoods across the country. GRASAG, representing the voices of Ghana’s graduate students, has expressed concerns about the future of the nation, particularly in the areas of environmental cons

JUST IN: Economic hardship in Ghana has taken a toll on offerings to God. - John Mahama

Former President, John Dramani Mahama, has asserted that the current economic hardship in Ghana has taken a toll on offerings to God.  According to him, followers of Christ are unable to give huge offerings in church due to the economic hardship, which has affected the pockets of Ghanaians.  He was speaking at the 175th anniversary thanksgiving service of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Ho.  “We must always spread Christian love, especially in this time, when money doesn’t like noise. Especially in this time when we all agree that times are hard. This is the time we must show our Christian charity by loving our neighbours as ourselves. And so whatever little you have to share, you should share with your neighbour. I mean we could tell the hardship in the system from the appeal for funds. Polls on current economic crisis biased – NPP Communications Director

Image
The New Patriotic Party Communications Director, Richard Ahiagbah, has downplayed the growing discontent with the Akufo-Addo government, which has been reflected in polls and recent protests. Speaking on The Point of View, Mr. Ahiagbah maintained that Ghana’s economic crisis has external causes because “the whole world is not going in the right direction. A recent poll by Global Info Analytics has indicated that 77 percent of Ghanaians believe the country is heading in the wrong direction. This comes amid crippling inflation and fuel prices that have left many Ghanaians frustrated. But Mr. Ahiagbah remarked that “I think polling in this environment is biased, to begin with, because people’s emotions are in a certain place, so you are going to get a predictable outcome.” “What is really of consequence is the effort and the commitment of the government that is in power who for some reason is caught up in this global economic downturn,” he added. Oliver Barker Vormawor ( Fix The Country Activist )  A convener of the #FixTheCountry movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, says the country’s present level of economic crisis is one bigger than a pandemic. According to him, if the challenges are not addressed with drastic measures, including medium and long-term solutions, Ghana would keep running to the doorsteps of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for support. He joined the ‘Ku Me Preko Reloaded’ demonstration on Saturday, November 5, where he noted that the problems facing the country should not be treated with “superficial tweak. “We are in a deep economic and systemic crisis, it’s bigger than the pandemic and the responses we devise to this must not only be superficial. This is about the 17th time we are back at the IMF; we cannot continue like this. “We have said this from the very beginning that the problems that we are faced with today and where we are now is as a result of a gap between the political class and those who are
