The protest, scheduled for October 11, 2024, is expected to draw significant attention to the environmental degradation caused by galamsey and the perceived lapses in leadership in addressing the issue. The Catholic Bishops have been vocal in their criticisms of illegal mining, which has devastated large portions of Ghana’s forests, farmlands, and water bodies. They argue that despite various government initiatives to combat galamsey, the issue persists, posing a serious threat to the environment and livelihoods across the country. In the political landscape of Ghana, the upcoming elections are influenced by two important factors: the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) "Breaking the 8" agenda and John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) securing the 8th position on the ballot paper. 1. The NPP's "Breaking the 8" Agenda: The NPP has been in power for two consecutive terms with President Nana Akufo-Addo (2016-2024). Their "Breaking the 8" agenda aims to win a third consecutive term, which has never been achieved in Ghana's Fourth Republic. Since 1992, power has alternated between the NDC and the NPP every eight years. By breaking this cycle, the NPP hopes to achieve a significant milestone and defy historical trends. However, the NPP faces challenges such as voter fatigue, economic concerns (inflation, unemployment), and issues related to governance and corruption. Despite these challenges, if the NPP can effectively communicate their vision for continuity and
