Galamsey Menace: GRASAG to Join Catholic Bishops in Protest Against Galamsey on October 11

The Graduate Students' Association of Ghana (GRASAG) has announced its intention to join forces with the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference in a nationwide protest against illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, and what they describe as worsening governance in the country. The protest, scheduled for October 11, 2024, is expected to draw significant attention to the environmental degradation caused by galamsey and the perceived lapses in leadership in addressing the issue. The Catholic Bishops have been vocal in their criticisms of illegal mining, which has devastated large portions of Ghana’s forests, farmlands, and water bodies. They argue that despite various government initiatives to combat galamsey, the issue persists, posing a serious threat to the environment and livelihoods across the country. Nigerian Election: Singer Turned Politician, Banky W Loses Seat To Labour Party

Banky W  Nigerian singer, Olubankole Wellington, also known as Banky W, the musician-turned-politician, has unfortunately lost to his opponent Thaddeus Attah of the Labour Party(LP). He did not get the results he hoped for, as he lost the seat to the candidate of the Labour Party. On Sunday, 26 February, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mr Thaddeus Attah as the winner of the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives. Thaddeus Attah won with 24,075 votes, defeating his opponents, Mr Olubankole Wellington (Banky W) representing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had 18,666 votes, and Mr Babjide Obanikoro of the APC, who had 16,901 votes. The INEC Returning Officer, Professor Funmilayo Odukoya, declared Attah the winner at the Collation Centre, Lagos State Model Nursery and Primary School, Marwa, Lekki 1.
