Galamsey Menace: GRASAG to Join Catholic Bishops in Protest Against Galamsey on October 11

Image
The Graduate Students' Association of Ghana (GRASAG) has announced its intention to join forces with the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference in a nationwide protest against illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, and what they describe as worsening governance in the country. The protest, scheduled for October 11, 2024, is expected to draw significant attention to the environmental degradation caused by galamsey and the perceived lapses in leadership in addressing the issue. The Catholic Bishops have been vocal in their criticisms of illegal mining, which has devastated large portions of Ghana’s forests, farmlands, and water bodies. They argue that despite various government initiatives to combat galamsey, the issue persists, posing a serious threat to the environment and livelihoods across the country. GRASAG, representing the voices of Ghana’s graduate students, has expressed concerns about the future of the nation, particularly in the areas of environmental cons

Polls on current economic crisis biased – NPP Communications Director

Image
The New Patriotic Party Communications Director, Richard Ahiagbah, has downplayed the growing discontent with the Akufo-Addo government, which has been reflected in polls and recent protests. Speaking on The Point of View, Mr. Ahiagbah maintained that Ghana’s economic crisis has external causes because “the whole world is not going in the right direction. A recent poll by Global Info Analytics has indicated that 77 percent of Ghanaians believe the country is heading in the wrong direction. This comes amid crippling inflation and fuel prices that have left many Ghanaians frustrated. But Mr. Ahiagbah remarked that “I think polling in this environment is biased, to begin with, because people’s emotions are in a certain place, so you are going to get a predictable outcome.” “What is really of consequence is the effort and the commitment of the government that is in power who for some reason is caught up in this global economic downturn,” he added. But responding to Mr. Ahiagbah on the sh

He joined the ‘Ku Me Preko Reloaded’ demonstration on Saturday, November 5, where he noted that the problems facing the country should not be treated with “superficial tweak. “We are in a deep economic and systemic crisis, it’s bigger than the pandemic and the responses we devise to this must not only be superficial. This is about the 17th time we are back at the IMF; we cannot continue like this. “We have said this from the very beginning that the problems that we are faced with today and where we are now is as a result of a gap between the political class and those who are
