The Graduate Students' Association of Ghana (GRASAG) has announced its intention to join forces with the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference in a nationwide protest against illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, and what they describe as worsening governance in the country. The protest, scheduled for October 11, 2024, is expected to draw significant attention to the environmental degradation caused by galamsey and the perceived lapses in leadership in addressing the issue. The Catholic Bishops have been vocal in their criticisms of illegal mining, which has devastated large portions of Ghana’s forests, farmlands, and water bodies. They argue that despite various government initiatives to combat galamsey, the issue persists, posing a serious threat to the environment and livelihoods across the country. BREAKING NEWS: Appoint Stephen Ntim to replace Kennedy Agyapong - Npp Youth Appeals to President Akufo- Addo

A group calling itself the Concerned New Patriotic Party (NPP) Youth has appealed to President Akufo- Addo to appoint Stephen Ntim to replace Kennedy Agyapong as Board Chairman of the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC).

According to the group, the Chairman seat of the GNGC will be vacant following Mr Agyapong’s intention to contest the NPP flagbearership position when nominations open.

The Group, led by one of the party communicators, Solomon Kusi Appiah said the choice of Mr Ntim as a suitable replacement was because he wields the expertise required to occupy the position

“I strongly believe that with his vast experience in several executive and corporate positions, he will be able to deliver when asked to replace Hon. Kennedy Agyapong,” Mr Kusi said.

Further, the group said their choice has nothing to do with his role as NPP chairman but on the merit of his capabilities.

“Let’s even move away from the fact that he is the chairman of our beloved party and focus on his prowess. We’re talking about a man who has demonstrated consistency and tenacity; a man who knows his onions, and a man who knows the ingredients required to lead and achieve results,” the group added.

The Assin Central Member of Parliament, Ken Agyapong has occupied the position as the Board Chairman of the GNGC since July 22, 2021.

Also, the Youth Group wants the President to appoint the party’s General Secretary Justice Frimpong Kodua (JKF) to a position where he can contribute to national development.

“Our General Secretary, Lawyer JKF also deserves an appointment. These are people who have the interest of the party and country as a whole at heart and are willing to contribute to the development of our nation with their enormous expertise. It is the reason we’re pleading with President Akufo-Addo to listen to us,” the group said.
