Galamsey Menace: GRASAG to Join Catholic Bishops in Protest Against Galamsey on October 11

The Graduate Students' Association of Ghana (GRASAG) has announced its intention to join forces with the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference in a nationwide protest against illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, and what they describe as worsening governance in the country. The protest, scheduled for October 11, 2024, is expected to draw significant attention to the environmental degradation caused by galamsey and the perceived lapses in leadership in addressing the issue. The Catholic Bishops have been vocal in their criticisms of illegal mining, which has devastated large portions of Ghana’s forests, farmlands, and water bodies. They argue that despite various government initiatives to combat galamsey, the issue persists, posing a serious threat to the environment and livelihoods across the country. This came after Alan tendered his resignation to the President of the Republic, Nana Akufo-Addo, from the Ministry Of Trade and Industry. The President has thus accepted the resignation and assigned under-pressure Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, to be caretaker in the absence of Alan. Alan Kyerematen, popularly known as Alan Cash, took to his social media handle to thank President Nana Addo ‘for the opportunity to serve and for graciously accepting my resignation as Cabinet Minister responsible for Trade and Industry, effective 16th January, 2023’. The Flagbearer aspirant added that ‘ I sincerely appreciate the support from my family, colleagues, my party the NPP, the international community, and the general public during my tenure as a Minister, I will be addressing the Ghanaian people in the next few days’. Ghanaian Rapper Vic Mensa together with United States Rapper Chance The Rapper, both of whom have been living in Ghana the last few years, brings to you tonight #BlackStarLine Festival. The likes of Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, T Pain and other Ghanaian Rappers will be on bill. The Headline Blackstarline was specifically chosen by Vic and Chance in respect to Marcus Garvey's Pan Africanist Movement and Group of Companies Black Star Line, which sought to empower all so called Black people across the Caribbean, South and North America as well as African Continents, economically and socially. The event is at the University of Ghana, Legon Campus and it's free.

Just In: Kenyan Gay right Activist Edwin Chiloba Killed And Stashed In a Metallic Box

The police in Kenya began an investigation into the murder of model and LGBTQ activist, Edwin Chiloba on Wednesday, January 4. Chiloba was found murdered and his body was stashed in a metallic box along the Kipenyo-Kaptinga road, in Kapsaret, Uasin Gishu. According to the police, preliminary investigations show that a car without a plate number was seen dropping the metal box in the area. The matter was reported to police officers who were manning a nearby roadblock. The officers abandoned their post and rushed to the scene. Upon opening the box, a decomposing body of a man dressed in a woman’s clothes was found inside. It was later established that the dead body was that of the fashion designer and gay rights activist. His remains were then deposited at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital awaiting post-mortem to establish the cause of death as investigations start. Kojo Antwi Legendary Highlife musician, Kojo Antwi has lost his father. The music star who is fondly called “Mr. Music Man” made the announcement via his social media platforms on Friday, January 6, 2023. According to the ‘Adiepena’ hitmaker, his father, Opanin Kwadwo Asiamah Asubonten died on Monday, January 2, 2023, at the age of 104. Making the announcement, Kojo Antwi wrote a long and deep farewell speech to say goodbye to his late dad. Just In: Prince Tagoe Granted Bail Of GHc100,000.00

Prince Tagoe, Former Black Stars Player The Accra Circuit Court trying Prince Tagoe, a former Black Stars’ player for an alleged fraud, has granted him a GHc100,000.00 bail with three sureties, one of whom should be a civil servant. The Court presided over by Mr Samuel Bright Acquah ordered that one of the sureties could be justified with a landed property.  The former player has paid GHC129,000.00 out of the USD 40,000, which is equivalent to GHC265,200.00 on the charge of defrauding by false pretence.  A former footballer, Mr George Antwi Boateng, is the complainant. Tagoe has denied the offence. Detective Chief Inspector Agartha Abena Asantewaa earlier informed the Court that Mr Antwi Boateng, also a former Ghanaian footballer, was based in Germany. Just In: Man Lynched For Murdering Okada Rider

A man suspected to have killed a colleague ‘okada’ rider at Asiri in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region has been lynched. Information gathered so far indicates that the suspect hired the ‘okada’ rider to transport him to a nearby town, however, en route, he stabbed the rider and bolted with his motorcycle. Another rider in opposite direction witnessed the incident and raised an alarm at an information centre in a nearby village. The suspect was arrested by the youth and given a sound beating before he was later rescued by the district’s police commander. However, the commander suffered a similar fate, and his Toyota Corolla car was vandalized before the irate youth snatched the suspect back. The suspect was marched to the Assembly Member of the area’s office where he denied any wrongdoing. Reports reaching this portal from deep sources within the Flagstaff House indicate that Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kyeremateng has resigned from government. The reasons for his resignation are not immediately clear but our sources say it is to allow him focus on his flagbearership ambitions. Mr. Kyeremateng has emerged as front runner in the race to lead the NPP, together with Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
