The CSD-Ghana believes strongly that the foundation of any free and fair election is a credible register and as such, any effort towards having a credible Voters’ Register must be supported by all democracy lovers. The Electoral Commission has admitted to many errors in the Electoral Roll, as pointed out by the NDC, but has failed to allow for an independent forensic audit into the same. The EC, for example, has admitted that there were illegal vote transfers in Sagnerigu, Pusiga and Tamale South by an Electoral Commission Official in Tamale South. According to the EC, these illegal transfers went through because there was no “liveness check” mechanism in place to prevent such situations.  The NDC says the situation is widespread so there must be an audit. This is a fair and reasonable call to make, but the EC has remained intransigent. A heated argument over their fathers’ wealth at O’Reilly Senior High School turned tragic when a final-year student was stabbed during a confrontation on campus. In a video shared with GhanaWeb, a cousin of the victim, Edward, who was a General Arts student, recounted the incident to TV3. After finishing a morning exam, they heard commotion and discovered Edward engaged in a physical altercation with another student, Godwin. The argument escalated violently, leading to Edward being stabbed multiple times. Despite the gravity of the situation, teachers reportedly did not intervene. Students quickly organized to find a taxi to transport Edward to the hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has confidently declared that the 2024 Voters’ Register is both robust and credible, urging citizens to disregard claims suggesting otherwise.
