Galamsey Menace: GRASAG to Join Catholic Bishops in Protest Against Galamsey on October 11

The Graduate Students' Association of Ghana (GRASAG) has announced its intention to join forces with the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference in a nationwide protest against illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, and what they describe as worsening governance in the country. The protest, scheduled for October 11, 2024, is expected to draw significant attention to the environmental degradation caused by galamsey and the perceived lapses in leadership in addressing the issue. The Catholic Bishops have been vocal in their criticisms of illegal mining, which has devastated large portions of Ghana’s forests, farmlands, and water bodies. They argue that despite various government initiatives to combat galamsey, the issue persists, posing a serious threat to the environment and livelihoods across the country. JUST IN: Soldier, 6 national security operatives arrested for alleged robbery

 




The Oyibi Police Command arrested a military officer and six (6) national security operatives at Amarhie in the Kpone Katamanso District for posing as land guards and robbing residents at gunpoint.

The six were apprehended based on an intelligence tip, and the Oyibi police command quickly mobilized to the scene and arrested them.

Pump action guns and other ammunition were recovered from them.


According to an Oyibi Police source, the suspects robbed people at gunpoint, and extorted money from residents before pulling down the walls of some buildings in the area.


The suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court soon. According to information, the said group has been terrorizing residents in the area, making residents uncomfortable for some time now as they harass and attack people anytime.



Among those arrested is a military officer, WO2 Asare of the SBN, who has since been taken over by the military command.


Mr. Evans Quashie Teye, an estate developer, is one of the residents who have suffered at the hands of the suspects and has since worked with the police to put an end to the harassment of residents in the area

Breaking News: A Military Man Shot Dead At Kasoa Over Alleged Land Dispute

A military officer in his late 30s was shot dead in Millennium City during a land dispute, while two other officers narrowly escaped death. The incident occurred near the Millennium City District Police Command at Kasoa in the Central region of Ghana. According to reports, the brother of one of the military officers had purchased land from a landowner identified as Winnebo Ndego. However, a group led by one Fiifi consistently prevented them from developing the land.
