The Graduate Students' Association of Ghana (GRASAG) has announced its intention to join forces with the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference in a nationwide protest against illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, and what they describe as worsening governance in the country. The protest, scheduled for October 11, 2024, is expected to draw significant attention to the environmental degradation caused by galamsey and the perceived lapses in leadership in addressing the issue. The Catholic Bishops have been vocal in their criticisms of illegal mining, which has devastated large portions of Ghana’s forests, farmlands, and water bodies. They argue that despite various government initiatives to combat galamsey, the issue persists, posing a serious threat to the environment and livelihoods across the country. Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei Has Join His Ancestors

Former Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation Dr Anthony Akoto Osei has died, Degeniuz Blog has gathered. Dr Akoto Osei died on Monday, March 20 after a short illness. Until his death, the deceased politician was a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He had served the people of Old Tafo Pankrono as their Member of Parliament (MP) until 2020. He served as the Ranking Member of Finance from 2009 to 2013. He was appointed Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation in 2017 when the NPP regained power.

Fake 'Anas' Busted

The Adabraka police told The Ghanaian Times on Saturday that Osei had defrauded numerous companies in the name of Mr Anas. The Times gathered that the collected huge sums of money from the companies with the promise to influence Anas to stop investigations into their activities. The Adabraka Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DESP), Ebenezer Nketia, said Osei took advantage of his relationship with the staff of the Tiger Eye Company of Anas and managed to break into the company’s laptop. He also stole the company’s letter head which he (Osei) used in forging documents by fixing names of companies which Anas was investigating. Osei then sent text messages to the companies informing them that Anas was investigating their dealings and offered to help to have the investigations halted. ECG To Close Down Nationwide

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that beginning Monday, March 20, 2023, it shall close down all of its offices across the country as it seeks to embark on a nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise. The power distribution company said the exercise which will last for one month period will take place from Monday, March 20, 2023 and end on Thursday, April 20, 2023. According to the ECG, the exercise shall affect operations at its Head office, Regional and District offices except for Customer Service Centres (CSC) to enable total participation by top Management and Staff. “This massive revenue mobilisation exercise will focus on all categories of customers in arrears including State-Owned Enterprises and will be monitored by special teams who will apprehend and prosecute customers who attempt to interfere with the exercise, and/or undertake illegal self-reconnection after disconnection,” it said in a public notice.   Three people, who allegedly faked an Agenda 111 Hospital project contract, have been charged with defrauding by false pretense. They are said to have convinced the Managing Director of the DBS Industries Limited to part with monies worth over GH¢1million in exchange for the government contract and four vehicles – three tipper trucks and one backhoe machine. Two of them were arraigned at the Accra Circuit Court presided over by Afia Owusua Appiah last Monday (February 27, 2023). They are Ebenezer Kwame Boadi and Frank A-Ugidimah-Ananvura Aborigo. The third accused person, only known as Mike is on the run. They have been charged with defrauding by false pretense. They reportedly offered a government contract, which they claimed they had been offered under the Agenda 111 Hospital project, according to the prosecution.
