Galamsey Menace: GRASAG to Join Catholic Bishops in Protest Against Galamsey on October 11

The Graduate Students' Association of Ghana (GRASAG) has announced its intention to join forces with the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference in a nationwide protest against illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, and what they describe as worsening governance in the country. The protest, scheduled for October 11, 2024, is expected to draw significant attention to the environmental degradation caused by galamsey and the perceived lapses in leadership in addressing the issue. The Catholic Bishops have been vocal in their criticisms of illegal mining, which has devastated large portions of Ghana’s forests, farmlands, and water bodies. They argue that despite various government initiatives to combat galamsey, the issue persists, posing a serious threat to the environment and livelihoods across the country. ECG To Close Down Nationwide






The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that beginning Monday, March 20, 2023, it shall close down all of its offices across the country as it seeks to embark on a nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise.



The power distribution company said the exercise which will last for one month period will take place from Monday, March 20, 2023 and end on Thursday, April 20, 2023.

According to the ECG, the exercise shall affect operations at its Head office, Regional and District offices except for Customer Service Centres (CSC) to enable total participation by top Management and Staff.

“This massive revenue mobilisation exercise will focus on all categories of customers in arrears including State-Owned Enterprises and will be monitored by special teams who will apprehend and prosecute customers who attempt to interfere with the exercise, and/or undertake illegal self-reconnection after disconnection,” it said in a public notice.
The notice further urged all cherished customers of the power distribution company to, as a matter of concern, pay their bills now to avoid disconnection and payment of reconnection fees.

Parts of the notice also warned that recalcitrant customers who refuse to redeem their “indebtedness to the company after they have been served with Final Demand Notice will be arraigned before the Court of Law.”

Breaking News: A Military Man Shot Dead At Kasoa Over Alleged Land Dispute

A military officer in his late 30s was shot dead in Millennium City during a land dispute, while two other officers narrowly escaped death. The incident occurred near the Millennium City District Police Command at Kasoa in the Central region of Ghana. According to reports, the brother of one of the military officers had purchased land from a landowner identified as Winnebo Ndego. However, a group led by one Fiifi consistently prevented them from developing the land.
