The Graduate Students' Association of Ghana (GRASAG) has announced its intention to join forces with the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference in a nationwide protest against illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, and what they describe as worsening governance in the country. The protest, scheduled for October 11, 2024, is expected to draw significant attention to the environmental degradation caused by galamsey and the perceived lapses in leadership in addressing the issue. The Catholic Bishops have been vocal in their criticisms of illegal mining, which has devastated large portions of Ghana’s forests, farmlands, and water bodies. They argue that despite various government initiatives to combat galamsey, the issue persists, posing a serious threat to the environment and livelihoods across the country. Akufo-Addo the president of Ghana has extends Auditor-General’s appointment Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu will spend two more years in office as his contract has been extended by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Mr. Asiedu was due for statutory retirement on August 1, 2024. A notice dated June 19 from the Audit Service congratulated Mr. Asiedu on the extension. “I wish to bring to the information of all staff that His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, has extended the tenure of the office of the Auditor General, Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu for the next two years,” the notice read. The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is expected to visit the Ga State on Sunday, June 9, 2024. The visit will be rounded off with a special durbar to be hosted by the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II at the forecourt of his palace. The Asantehene’s upcoming visit comes on the back of the Ga Mantse’s attendance to 25th-anniversary celebration of the former’s 25th anniversary celebration of his ascension to the throne, and also his 74th birthday celebration. A senior member of the planning committee, Nii Boye Abbey gave the details of the event at a press conference. “The Office of the Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II and the Ga traditional council wish to announce the special visit of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to the Ga State on Sunday, June 9, 2024. “The visit will be crowned with a special durbar hosted by King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II the Ga Mantse. It is a historic visit and it will rekindle the strong ties of friendship between the Gas and the Ashantis.”

Actor Kwadwo Nkansah popularly known as Lil Win has been granted GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties by the Asokore Mampong District Court after he was arrested on Monday, June 3. The actor was arrested by officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Manhyia Divisional Command moments after he was discharged from the hospital. His arrest is in connection with a recent accident involving a vehicle being driven by the actor which resulted in the death of a three-year-old boy. The family of the three-year-old boy intensified calls for justice after the death of their relative, but police said delays in the arrest of Lil Win was due to his health condition. Lil Win has been charged with Dangerous driving and negligently causing harm. The prosecution told the court they were still investigating the matter and insisted the accused should avail himself wherever he was needed. Police at the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Manhyia Divisional Police Command have arrested movie actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, shortly after he was discharged from the hospital. His arrest is linked to a recent accident involving a vehicle he was driving, which resulted in the death of a three-year-old boy. The family of the deceased intensified calls for justice following the tragic incident. The police cited delays in Lil Win’s arrest due to his health condition. A police vehicle was stationed at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and he was taken into custody immediately after being discharged by medical personnel. Although the police have not provided further details, the actor was transported to the Manhyia Divisional Police Command of the MTTD as investigations into the incident continue. Former Prez. Kuffour's Dispatch Rider Dies In An Accident When Leading Shatta Wale's Convoy

Shatta Wale is currently in the Upper East Region for a promotional gig for an alcoholic brand. But before he arrived in the region, his convoy got involved in an accident leading to the death of the policeman who is said to be in his early 30’s. The incident happened on the Tamale-Bolgatanga Highway while the musician’s convoy was travelling to Bolgatanga for a promotional event for an alcoholic beverage. The deceased officer, a motorcycle rider for former president John Kufour, was reportedly leading the convoy when he was involved in an accident on the highway with another car. The dispatch rider is reported to be one Sergeant Frempah, who studied the Law of Evidence, Criminal Procedure, and Police Ethics at the National Police Training School, who was killed in the impact. Witnesses recount a horrifying scene in which the officer was flung from his motorcycle as soon as it crashed.
