Galamsey Menace: GRASAG to Join Catholic Bishops in Protest Against Galamsey on October 11

The Graduate Students' Association of Ghana (GRASAG) has announced its intention to join forces with the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference in a nationwide protest against illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, and what they describe as worsening governance in the country. The protest, scheduled for October 11, 2024, is expected to draw significant attention to the environmental degradation caused by galamsey and the perceived lapses in leadership in addressing the issue. The Catholic Bishops have been vocal in their criticisms of illegal mining, which has devastated large portions of Ghana’s forests, farmlands, and water bodies. They argue that despite various government initiatives to combat galamsey, the issue persists, posing a serious threat to the environment and livelihoods across the country. Hon. Patrick Kumor, Former Weija-Gbawe MCE Passes On

The former Municipal Chief Executive Officer of Weija-Gbawe, Patrick Kumor, has reportedly passed away.

His death followed a brief illness. He was among the 25 MCEs whose appointments were recently rescinded by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Mr. Michael Danquah succeeded Mr. Kumor in his position.

During his tenure, Mr. Kumor initiated numerous projects within the Municipality.

In December 2022, Mr Kumor was awarded the UCIA 2022 Dynamic Achievers Award for Excellence in Leadership.

The award was presented to Hon. Kumor (MCE) at the British Council Hall by the Global Executive College (GEC).

The news of Kumor’s passing has been met with a deep sense of loss within the community.

He was known for his dedication to the development of the Weija-Gbawe Municipality and his efforts to improve the lives of its residents.

The details surrounding Kumor’s death are unknown as friends and loved ones take to social media to send condolence messages to the family he left behind. The community mourns the loss of a leader who had a significant impact on the region.
