Election: (CSD-Ghana) Backs The NDC’s “Enough is Enough” Protest In Demand For A Credible Voters’Register

The CSD-Ghana believes strongly that the foundation of any free and fair election is a credible register and as such, any effort towards having a credible Voters’ Register must be supported by all democracy lovers. The Electoral Commission has admitted to many errors in the Electoral Roll, as pointed out by the NDC, but has failed to allow for an independent forensic audit into the same. The EC, for example, has admitted that there were illegal vote transfers in Sagnerigu, Pusiga and Tamale South by an Electoral Commission Official in Tamale South. According to the EC, these illegal transfers went through because there was no “liveness check” mechanism in place to prevent such situations.  The NDC says the situation is widespread so there must be an audit. This is a fair and reasonable call to make, but the EC has remained intransigent. CSD-Ghana stands ready to fully participate in this protest and asks other democracy lovers to join us to mount enough pressure on the Electoral Commis

  Former Black Stars midfielder, Sulley Muntari has announced his retirement from football after almost two decades of being a professional footballer. Sulley Muntari confirmed on Monday, 28th November 2022 that the time has come for his career to come to an end at the age of 38 after playing for the Ghana Premier League side Hearts of Oak last as requested by his son. “I just did a few months with the local side [Hearts of Oak]. My son wanted me to play. I didn’t play for almost three years, then my son decided to ask me to go and play. I did that, but now I’m done,” he told Sky Sports. Sulley Muntari joined Hearts of Oak at the beginning of the year making a significant contribution to the club as they made their way to the FA Cup title and the President’s Cup, but he recently parted ways with them after failing to reach an agreement concerning an extension of his contract.   Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu says his side is disappointed by the sudden U-turn by the Majority Caucus after their earlier threats to boycott the 2023 Budget if it is presented by the embattled Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta. According to Mr. Iddrisu, they feel betrayed. “We feel let down and we feel betrayed by the Majority Caucus who have shown no wit in supporting us with our impeachment process within the letter and spirit of Article 82 of the 1992 constitution. We are not abandoning our censorship motion. We are in it for the long haul and we will insist that the letter and spirit of article 82 are fully respected and an outcome determined by secret vote ultimately after a debate on the Committee’s report is submitted to plenary,” he said at a press conference on Wednesday. JUST IN: Soldier, 6 national security operatives arrested for alleged robbery

  The Oyibi Police Command arrested a military officer and six (6) national security operatives at Amarhie in the Kpone Katamanso District for posing as land guards and robbing residents at gunpoint. The six were apprehended based on an intelligence tip, and the Oyibi police command quickly mobilized to the scene and arrested them. Pump action guns and other ammunition were recovered from them. According to an Oyibi Police source, the suspects robbed people at gunpoint, and extorted money from residents before pulling down the walls of some buildings in the area. The suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court soon. According to information, the said group has been terrorizing residents in the area, making residents uncomfortable for some time now as they harass and attack people anytime. BREAKING NEWS: Aisha Huang changes legal team; replaces Effah Dartey with 2 new lawyers

Embattled Chinese galamsey queen, Aisha Huang,has removed Capt. (rtd.) Nkrabea Effah Dartey as her lawyer. He has been replaced with two private legal practitioners, Miracle Attachey and Hope Agboado. The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP has been legal counsel for the controversial Chinese national since 2018, representing her both at the circuit and high courts in the first galamsey prosecutions that were eventually discontinued by the state. Capt. (rtd.) Nkrabea Effah Dartey also represented Aisha Huang on the new charges bothering on illegal mining and illegal entry into the country; both of which cases are running concurrently at the Circuit and High Courts. He has already cross-examined the 1st and 2nd prosecution witnesses and was scheduled to cross-examine the 3rd prosecution witness on Monday until the new lawyers announced themselves in court as replacing him. The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, has stated that the government will keep burning excavators and other machinery used in small-scale mining otherwise known as ‘galamsey’. This he said is to deter people from giving out their excavators for galamsey activities. He warned that the move is to deal ruthlessly with big men behind the illegal mining menace. He warned that government will not watch aloof for small-scale miners to destroy lands and water bodies. The Regional Minister added that health workers in the region report that kidney cases have gone up due to activities by small-scale miners.  The AICC in a statement said the initial confusion was due to a scheduling conflict at the level of the AICC staff and not a political decision. The statement signed by the Director of the AICC, Vivian K.A Asempapa added that the matter had been resolved and the premiere will come off as scheduled at 5 pm and 8 pm on both days. Meanwhile, Tiger Eye P.I. in a separate statement said it had agreed to go ahead with the public screening of Galamsey Economy. "Tiger Eye affirms that we were denied use of the place barely 48 hours to the public screening. We had already paid in full the initial cost and also made additional payment via cheque when AICC increased the cost of the venue by about 30 per cent.  The three teacher unions embarking on an industrial action against the appointment of Dr. Eric Nkansah as Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) have called off their strike. This follows a court order asking the unions to return to the classroom after the National Labour Commission (NLC) filed an interlocutory injunction on their strike. Even though the unions began the action after the appointment of the new Director General of the GES following the ousting of the previous boss, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwah, they later supplemented their rationale with other welfare deficits in the profession as part of their reasons for laying down their tools. NEWS: LGBTQ+ Advocate’s call to the Bar suspended for ‘lacking good character’

  The General Legal Council (GLC) has suspended the calling to bar of one Elorm Ababio, a successful graduate of the Ghana School of Law (GSL). Her suspension pends an investigation instituted by the GLC following a petition filed by a citizen against her conduct on social media. Ama Governor, as she is popularly known, according to the petition to the GLC is said to have disreputed the image of the GSL in some content posted on her YouTube account. Breaking News: Supreme Court orders Anas Aremeyaw Anas to appear in open court without mask to face Kwesi Nyantakyi

The Supreme Court of Ghana has delivered a damaging blow to Anas Aremeyaw Anas after ordering the journalist to appear in open court without his usual face mask to face Kwesi Nyantakyi. The highest ruling body in Ghana ruled on Tuesday morning that the reluctant journalist must appear in court without any face mask covering to testify in the case with the former Ghana FA President. Anas, who has been extremely reluctant to appear in court let alone without his mask, will now be publicly seen in court in his real flesh as he testifies in court.
