On Thursday, June 22, 2023, the peace of Ablekuma, a suburb of Accra, was shattered when armed men attacked a bullion van. The van, accompanied by Amanda’s husband providing escort, fell victim to the ambush. The officer confronted the assailants but tragically got shot severally
The Ghana Police Service, by IGP Akufo Dampare, immediately initiated a search for the four armed men responsible for this crime. Despite the loss of one of their own, the police force vowed to pursue justice relentlessly. They extended heartfelt condolences to Amanda and her family, promising unwavering support during this difficult time.
Consequently, the suspects, who were four in number were arrested. The Ghana Police Service made this announcement on Sunday, July 16, 2023, revealing that one of the suspects was arrested the day prior, on Saturday, July 15, 2023.

The swift collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and Togo Interpol played a crucial role in the capture of the third suspect, Blessing Njoma.
The incident unfolded when the bullion van paused at a fuel station, presumably for refuelling. Looking at the vulnerable moment, the robbers seized the opportunity to strike. While it remains unclear whether the assailants made off with any money, footage circulating on social media showed that the robbers ran away after shooting the police officer.
Following this tragic incident, several concerns were raised regarding the security protocols surrounding the transportation of money by financial institutions.
The Ghana Police Service has emphasised the need for massive protection for its personnel and advocated for the use of fortified bullion vans for cash transit.
