Former Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation Dr Anthony Akoto Osei has died, Degeniuz Blog has gathered. Dr Akoto Osei died on Monday, March 20 after a short illness. Until his death, the deceased politician was a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He had served the people of Old Tafo Pankrono as their Member of Parliament (MP) until 2020. He served as the Ranking Member of Finance from 2009 to 2013. He was appointed Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation in 2017 when the NPP regained power.

Fake 'Anas' Busted

The Adabraka police told The Ghanaian Times on Saturday that Osei had defrauded numerous companies in the name of Mr Anas. The Times gathered that the collected huge sums of money from the companies with the promise to influence Anas to stop investigations into their activities. The Adabraka Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DESP), Ebenezer Nketia, said Osei took advantage of his relationship with the staff of the Tiger Eye Company of Anas and managed to break into the company’s laptop. He also stole the company’s letter head which he (Osei) used in forging documents by fixing names of companies which Anas was investigating. Osei then sent text messages to the companies informing them that Anas was investigating their dealings and offered to help to have the investigations halted. ECG To Close Down Nationwide

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that beginning Monday, March 20, 2023, it shall close down all of its offices across the country as it seeks to embark on a nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise. The power distribution company said the exercise which will last for one month period will take place from Monday, March 20, 2023 and end on Thursday, April 20, 2023. According to the ECG, the exercise shall affect operations at its Head office, Regional and District offices except for Customer Service Centres (CSC) to enable total participation by top Management and Staff. “This massive revenue mobilisation exercise will focus on all categories of customers in arrears including State-Owned Enterprises and will be monitored by special teams who will apprehend and prosecute customers who attempt to interfere with the exercise, and/or undertake illegal self-reconnection after disconnection,” it said in a public notice.   Three people, who allegedly faked an Agenda 111 Hospital project contract, have been charged with defrauding by false pretense. They are said to have convinced the Managing Director of the DBS Industries Limited to part with monies worth over GH¢1million in exchange for the government contract and four vehicles – three tipper trucks and one backhoe machine. Two of them were arraigned at the Accra Circuit Court presided over by Afia Owusua Appiah last Monday (February 27, 2023). They are Ebenezer Kwame Boadi and Frank A-Ugidimah-Ananvura Aborigo. The third accused person, only known as Mike is on the run. They have been charged with defrauding by false pretense. Stop Borrowing From Our Central Bank, IMF Presses Ghana

The International Monetary Fund is pushing Ghana’s cash-strapped government to stop borrowing from its central bank, according to people familiar with the matter. The IMF wants the two entities to sign a commitment to zero financing, said the people who asked not to be identified because they’re not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. The accord is a condition Ghana is required to meet in order to secure final approval for a $3 billion IMF bailout, one of the people said. An IMF spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment. Spokespeople for the Ghanaian finance ministry and the central bank didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. The decision would bring a halt to central bank loans to the government that amount to about 40 billion cedis ($3.2 billion), according to one of the people. 56-years-old Nigerian national Arrested With Fake Currencies At Aflao Border

Aremu Timothy Adegboyega, a 56-year-old Nigerian national, has been arrested in Ghana. He was nabbed for allegedly transporting millions of CFA and Naira currencies suspected to be counterfeit. The suspect was arrested by a joint security team as he entered Ghana through Togo using an unapproved route called Beat Zero in Aflao, Volta Region. The Assistant commissioner of the Aflao Division of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Ahmed Majeed Amandi, who disclosed this on Monday, January 23, 2023, said the suspect was arrested last Tuesday. Amandi said personnel found CFA80 million in fresh notes, an additional CFA843,000 in the suspect's waist bag and N110,500 in his wallet. The currencies had the same serial numbers raising a lot of suspicion. Over 200 girls of the Wa Senior High Technical school have been left stranded following a fire outbreak that razed portions of the main girls’ dormitory block at the school. The inferno started at about 8:00 pm last night, destroying five rooms and the belongings of the girls in the one-story dormitory block. It took the intervention of personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service to bring the disaster under control, thereby preventing the fire from razing down the entire dormitory block. A police officer, Francis Adetsi from ofoase in the Eastern region stationed at Ayirebi has been caught smoking weed at Akim Etwereso in Akyemansa District. He was caught red-handed by Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe, Etweresohene and his entourage who were touring the community. Daasebre Ayebiahwee and his entourage saw a boy emerging from the bush having engaged in open defecation. The Chief asked the boy to lead them to where he defecated presumably to get evidence to punish him but on their way to the bush, the police officer in uniform and others were seen at a ghetto in the bush smoking weed with smoke all over the place. A driver of an OA bus is battling for his life after sustaining gunshot wounds during a robbery attack on the Techiman-Kintampo highway. The intercity travel bus was heading towards Burkina Faso from Kumasi when they were stopped by robbers upon getting to Jema, the capital of Kintampo.  The incident reportedly happened at around 12am, Thursday, January 19. The driver, Mohammed Ibrahim, managed to narrate to Adom News that they were greeted by gunshot from the robbers numbering four. He added that he fled for his safety after he was shot multiple times in his arm, while the robbers took over the bus. Other passengers sustained injuries from the shattered windows, as other visibly shaken passengers had their property stolen. A 29-year-old man identified as Richard Boadi Abunya has allegedly committed suicide by hanging at Sehwi Bodi in the Western North Region. According to reports gathered, the deceased was a mobile money vendor and credit card dealer at Sehwi Bodi. In the early hours of Friday, January 13, 2023, one woman went to his house to buy a credit card. She knocked at his door numerously but nobody answered so the deceased sister also knocked and called out to reach him but that proved futile. When they succeeded in breaking into the room, they found the deceased hanging from a crossing bar with a sponge tied to his neck.

The 2022 VGMA ‘New Artist of the Year’, Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong, who is popularly called Black Sherif, has put smiles on the faces of some mothers who were ‘detained’ at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital. The sensational musician has settled all their outstanding debts at the hospital following the successful delivery. Apparently, most of these new mothers could not foot the bills the hospital was demanding after they gave birth. Black Sherif visited the hospital today, January 18, 2023, together with his team to pay these bills and afford these new mothers an opportunity to finally reunite with their families at home.
